This is now my 4th post on transposing a song imported from iTunes.\u00a0This is for version 10.1.0 of GarageBand, which came with OS X 10.11 El Capitan.<\/strong><\/p>\n

See my third post if you’re\u00a0using GarageBand 10.0.3 to transpose a song imported from iTunes<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

My previous post<\/a> was written in January 2014. If you have an earlier version of GarageBand, that post should help you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

If you have Garageband 10.1.0 or later, follow these steps:<\/strong><\/p>\n

1) Open GarageBand 10.1.0.\u00a0Select \u201cEmpty Project\u201d and press \u201cChoose\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

2) Next, select \u201cSoftware Instrument\u201d and click \u201cCreate\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

3) GarageBand creates a Piano track for you. This is okay, you don’t really need the track, but you get it anyway.<\/p>\n

\"GarageBand<\/a><\/p>\n

4) Open iTunes and drag the song you want in import under the piano track that was created for you.<\/span><\/p>\n

5) Your track appears under the Piano track.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"GarageBand<\/a>\u00a06) Open GarageBand > Preferences\u2026\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

7)\u00a0Select Audio\/MIDI. Click on \u201cAudio Units\u201d to enable this effect. This step enables the plug-in that we will be using.<\/p>\n

8) When prompted, \u201cKeep\u201d existing effects, if you wish. (You might not be prompted to do anything, but in case you do, you can just keep them).<\/span><\/p>\n

9)\u00a0In the upper-left of the window, Look for the \u201cSmart Controls\u201d button, which looks like a knob.<\/span><\/p>\n

10) Click the “Knob” to select “Smart Controls”<\/p>\n

11) Look for the “i” and “Master” buttons.<\/p>\n

12)\u00a0Click the \u201ci\u201d and \u201cMaster\u201d buttons.<\/span><\/p>\n

13) Hover above the top processor (which is “Channel EQ” as shown above). Click and hold the blue line that becomes visible:<\/p>\n

14)\u00a0Next Select \u201cPitch > Pitch Shifter”<\/span><\/p>\n

15) First: Move the Mix slider all the way to the right to 100%. Second:\u00a0adjust the Semitones\u00a0to your new key. This will move up or down in musical half-steps.<\/p>\n

16) Double-check that you have the Mix slider all the way to the RIGHT!<\/p>\n
