I had a little trouble accessing the Internet today with my USB-727 modem from Verizon Wireless. When my Mac was running Leopard, I had installed the drivers from Verizon Wireless (called VZAccess). So even though I didn’t use the VZAccess Manager, the drivers were installed on my Mac.
I upgraded my OS to Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) and suddenly I was unable to connect to the Internet with my trusty USB-727 modem. Fortunately, the fix is really quite simple.
Here’s how to make it all work again:
- Uninstall VZAccess Manager (Start VZAccess Manager then choose VZAccess Manager > Uninstall VZAccess Manager from the Menu Bar).
- Open System Preferences and delete the Novatel connection (press the “-” button at the bottom of the list).
- Restart your Mac.
- Insert the USB-727
- Open System Preferences again.
- Allow Mac OS X to do it’s thing and install the modem for you!
- Press “Connect” and you should be connected to the Internet again very soon!

FYI, this article lists all the Sprint and Verizon EVDO devices that work using Snow Leopard’s built-in WWAN support: http://bit.ly/1r5pNe

Thanks for the comment. In future comments, please provide the complete URL instead of bit.ly or other abbreviated URL links for everybody’s protection. Thanks!
Thanks! I didn’t even realize you can connect now without using the VZAccess software. This method is way simpler and now I can stop trying to pull my hair out attempting to get VZA to work with Snow Leopard.
